Religion and Clutter

religion is clutter.
fear is clutter.
religion is fear, structured.
structured clutter is a prison, you vs them.
ethics and practice, on the other hand, take up no space.
they take nothing away, except perhaps fear.
fear drives people to religion. what do they fear?
they fear being found out.
they fear for their jobs, marriages, family, souls.
they fear death.
they fear god will not be good to them unless they conform to a convincing religion.
they are suffering, or fear suffering.
god and church become lucky charms–they hope.
talk about clutter.

I love this, I’m saving it, thank you.
Thank you, Anonymous. I am happy and humbled.
I agree, although not across the board; some people find religion unexpectedly in beauty and fact. But those people are rarer than the others, I think.
i think we share a brain…
thank you for putting my thoughts into words.
Hi Meg,
there is certainly some truth in that. Far too structured far to fear induced. I believe in spirit and I believe there may be a supreme power guiding this show but to constrain that idea in religion, not for me thanks. Far too limiting.
Colleen recently posted..Day 227 Have you ever watched paint dry…
Thanks for stopping by, Colleen! I don’t question spirituality or even belief in God (I’m happily agnostic, not atheist). But structured religion seems so arbitrary, and at the same time too conceptually limiting.
Formal religion might be binding, but a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ is the most freeing thing you can ever esperience in life, and in that security I chickened out of the rat race years ago. I have a full and rich life, and live in the present and future in spite of my 70+ years. I believe in a personal call and destiny and even felt save while travelling alone in Europe with a backpack, youth hostel membership and Eurail ticket. No fixed bookings, no cellphone, but always aware of His presence.
Riana, I totally agree. Religion IS binding and structured because it is man-made and man-managed. But a personal, intimate relationship with God through Jesus Christ is the ultimate freedom. It is no more based on fear, structure, or bondage than a relationship with a loved one.
books have been written on this but you said it best….minimally. well played.
Thank you. My later posts are too long, I know. :/
